RAFT RACE - Friday 29th August 1st Annual Lydbrook Raft Race Pub Challenge. All the pubs in the village are currently in the process of building their own raft to be launched at 5.00pm. Music and prize giving in the evening. Full race rules below:

Friday 29th August
5.00pm Launch
Bishopswood to The Lydbrook Tump

The Rules
• Each team shall represent their chosen Lydbrook village pub
• Any pub may also create a ‘b’ team if they wish
• Each team must consist of between 4-8 people
• All vessels must be made by hand, without the use of modern machinery i.e. no welding etc. (Hammer, Nails, Screws and Ropes are allowed)
• Any vessel tested before the actual race will be disqualified – the first time the raft must touch the water, must be after 5.00pm on August 29th.
• All vessels shall be presented in The Courtfield car park at 12.00pm on race day. This is so the majority of racers can ‘pass’ all vessels, as being built in accordance with the rules. This allows a little time for adjustments if necessary.
• To begin the race all entrants shall place their vessel at the selected point in the Bishopswood village hall car park and at the starters whistle shall carry it to the water to launch.
• All participants must provide and use their own life jacket and oar at all times during the race (Oars may be real oars and do not need to be built).
• The finishing line will be across the first point of the Lydbrook Island.
• The winning team will be the first team to get at least 50% of their team and 50% of their raft across the line first.
• The winning team must be “onboard” their vessel when passing the finishing line.
• Any person leaving the water and making their way on the bank, at any point during the race, will be disqualified.

A complementary buffet for all race participants will be held after the race at The Courtfield Arms, followed by the presentation of ‘The Cup’ to the winning pub to be defended the following year!
